CSACEFA ABIA MEETS WITH THE HEADS OF MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SECONDARY EDUCATION MANAGEMENT BOARD(SEMB)

In continuation of her working visit to promote free, affordable, standard and inclusive education for All, CSACEFA, Abia extends her working visits to the Ministry of Education and SEMB on Tuesday 16th March, 2021. The team of 5 members, led by Mrs Eunice Egbuna, the State Coordinator, on appointment met with the Permanent Secretary, Mr Eze Ajuzieogu.
The meeting was a brief one as the team lead explained their mission and also talked on their observation and the suggested ways of making the education institution ( both public and private, primary and secondary) , to step up their administration pattern yo improve the standard of education in Abia State.
Some of the issues raised included:
* The need to rationalize and transfer and to have equal distribution of teachers in fairness to the rural schools. CSACEFA mentioned the need to make provision for incentives to retain teachers in the rural communities.
*Retraining of teachers to update them with current technology in teaching and learning.
* Ensuring that water is available in schools to improve hygiene and help prevent/ curb COVID19 spread and many others.
Presenting the position paper that contained the points raised, Mrs Egbuna re- emphasized the need to urgently look into the issues and said they looked forward for action in that regard and a deeper collaboration with the ministry in the execution of education programmes.

Receiving the brief on behalf of the of Permanent Secretary, Mr Ajuzieogu, who was on emergency official assignment, Princess Ngwakwe thanked CSACEFA and added that she would deliver their message to her boss.
There was a group photograph to concretise their visit. Other members of the team were: Comrade Chuka Okoye, (the secretary) Von Obiegbunam, ( the Fin. Secretary, Cassius Ukwugbe), ( member) and Victor Okezie ( member).
In the afternoon of the same day, CSACEFA, Abia also visited Secondary Education Management Board( SEMB). Elder Okoronkwo, the Director for school Services( DSS) who stood in for the Education Secretary, Elder Osuagwu received CSACEFA team led by Mrs Egbuna.
Mrs Egbuna addressed the representative of the Executive Secretary on the issues identified by CSACEFA as it concerns SEMB. In addition to the issues raised in the meeting with the ministry of education, the issue to accommodate CSACEFA as independent monitors and ensuring that unprofessional personnel are not allowed to go for Exam supervisions.
Responding on behalf of the Executive Secretary( ES), the DSS, elder Osuagwu, commended CSACEFA for the effort in ensuring that gaps were closed in the education sector. He assured the team that their concerns would be made known to the ES and explained that transfers were in process in the three education zones- Umuahia, Abia and Ohafia.
Elder Okoronkwo informed CSACEFA, that the government had brought in some sanitizers which his office has distributed to the Deputy Executive Secretaries for onward distribution to the schools in their various zones.
Thereafter, a position paper was presented to the DSS. Finally, a group photograph was taken to mark the day.
