GENDER RESPONSIVE BUDGETING: CSACEFA CHARGE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION TO SET ASIDE 5% OF CONTRACT SUM IN EDUCATION SECTOR A STATE EDUCATION TRUST FUND
CSACEFA Benue Chapter, on Tuesday, 13/07/21 engaged the Hon. Commissioner for Education with his Management team in Company of SUBEB Chairman and his Permanent Commissioners to urge the leadership/policy implementer in the State Education sector to increase funding for Benue girl Child to have access to Quality Basic Education.

CSACEFA Benue team was lead by Lady Gladys Shaahu, State Coordinator, who was accompanied by state members of the network and State PTA representative. In her Advocacy message to the Hon. Commissioner, the state coordinator conveyed the Communique from the last Education sector stakeholders meeting that was convened in Makurdi by CSACEFA Benue Chapter, which state thus :
1. The MoE should create a separate state budget line for Benue Girl Child in the MoE annual appropriation.
2. MoE should set aside 5% of contract sum in the Sector for a state Education Trust Fund.
3. MoE should act fast to assist IDP Children to have access and acquire basic education in a conducive environment among many other prayers.
Responding, the Hon. Commissioner for Education, Professor Dennis Ityavyar, directed the budget Officer of the ministry to take action by creating a budget line for Benue Girl Child Education separate in the 2022 ministry’s annual appropriation.
He also made a commitment to ensure that State Education Summit is held, even if he leaves the position of Commissioner in the state cabinet, he will handover to the management team.
He also told the team that the Benue Education Law is already reviewed without involving stakeholders and is with the State EXCO to be sent to Assembly soon, where all Stakeholders will contribute maximally to the bill.
He then praised the tireless reminders by CSACEFA Benue team, and that it will always reawakened Government in performing her duties, he promised to work with his team to do all that CSACEFA has pointed out in her Advocacy message.

He further urged CSACEFA to take her Advocacy specifically to SUBEB leadership for more prompt response.
The Hon. Commissioner also instructed his Director of Special and Primary Education to work out modalities for the Ministry to visit and donate learning materials to the IDP Camps to ensure the children receive Basic quality Education while in the Camp in a conducive environment.
